Solar and Nocturnal Bodies
Join the AOA in September for a talk on Solar and Nocturnal Bodies with Alice Sparkly Kat.
This is a Zoom presentation and there is a $5 charge for non-members. The Zoom link will be sent to you via email on Sunday, September 13,
Ace from Alice Sparkly Kat will present a fresh perspective on the Sun and Moon. Race is a speculative language, just like astrology. Western astrology is also an astrology that must be contextualized in the history of the West. The luminaries accumulate meaning through racial capitalism. In this presentation, Alice Sparkly Kat will look at the Sun and Moon through postcolonial theory to complicate the ways in which we use the luminaries to talk about life, power, capital, and borders.
About Alice Sparkly Kat
Alice Sparkly Kat (they/them) is a queer, PoC astrologer with many years of experience in individual consultation, lectures, workshops, and writing. Their mission with astrology is to take back the language of the cosmos from capitalism and supremacy and to use it for the creation of communities of care. To them, astrology is storytelling. It is a process of imagining the cultural alien through the metaphor of outer space. They use astrology to re-chart a history of the subconscious, redefine the body in the world, and reimagine history as collective memory.
Their astrological work has inhabited MoMA, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Hauser and Wirth. They’re friendly, located in Brooklyn, and available for personal consultations, group training, events, classes, and workshops.
