The AOA astrology classes introduce the basics of western tropical chart interpretation: year one – first 6 months, starting in January 2024.
Class fundamentals
This is the first of a series of astrology classes that the AOA teaches. It introduces the fundamentals of chart analysis using western tropical methodologies. This curriculum follows the NCGR guide for level 1 certification testing.
At the end of this series, you should be able to look at a chart and assess basic components: signs, planets, houses, angles, modes, elements, polarities, dignities, chart patterns, primary aspects, nodes.
NOTE: If you want to take the NCGR certification test, you must learn how to calculate the astronomy and set up a chart by hand. That will be a separate module and only taught if there is a demand for it.
Zoom astrology classes will be recorded and available for review online exclusively for students. The workshop, where we look at your charts, will not be recorded.
- If the regular monthly AOA meeting is on Zoom, then the workshop will also be on Zoom.
- If the regular monthly AOA meeting is in-person, then we will meet there in-person.
- We recognize that for some students (non-local and otherwise), attendance at the in-person workshops is not convenient, and it is not required. But for those who can attend, it is an opportunity to engage with the teacher and other students and supports the learning environment. We recommend that you come if you can.
Class times and location
Tuesday evenings 7 – 9 pm every two weeks on Zoom with a workshop before the monthly AOA meeting on Mondays.
Class requirements
You should bring at least five charts of your choice to analyze and share, family, friends, or public personalities, with complete and accurate birth information (date, time, location). These are your charts to use. Please delete identifying information and, if the chart is non-public, you MUST have the individual’s permission to use and share it. There will be practice assignments using those charts, and you will be presenting your results in class. There will also be an online bibliography and quiz each month, that you can use to assess your understanding of the content and do further study.

Class cost
The cost for the astrology class is $50 per month. Paid by quarter. $150 before January 2024 and $150 before April 2024.
This class is limited to 15 students, so if you are interested, reserve your space with a $20 deposit and complete the self-assessment below. This class will try to meet students where they are in their current level of astrological knowledge and design the curriculum accordingly. You can help us with that by completing the skills assessment. The deposit will be applied to the fee for the class. We will remove the reservation button when we reach our max number of students
- The deposit reserves your space in the class. You need to reserve your space for both segments, January and April in advance of their start date.
- For your deposit you will receive a PDF worksheet with the glyphs and their descriptions. If you don’t already know them, you should study/memorize them in advance of the class. It will make the class go more smoothly for you.
- The deposit is non-refundable, except if for any reason, the class is canceled.
- Class tuition needs to be paid before the classes start. In January and April.
- AOA members are exempted from the deposit, but still need to reserve space via email: classes@astologykansascity-aoa.com.
- AOA members are still required to pay the remaining tuition, $130 in advance of the start of both class segments, January and April 2024.
